When should you have the bridal shower?
Your personal deadline
Pick a date and we'll show you the exact deadline for your wedding.
Two months before the wedding is the traditional sweet spot for a bridal shower — the excitement is already building, the wedding still feels a little bit away, and the final-stretch to-do list hasn't kicked in yet. Anywhere in the 1 to 3 month window is completely fine, and no one is counting.
Who hosts? Traditionally the maid of honor, alone or with the wedding party. Today it's often a parent, a sibling, a close friend, or a small group who share the planning. There is no rule — the right host is the person who loves the couple and enjoys throwing a party.
Who's invited? Only people also invited to the wedding — a shower for someone not on the wedding guest list reads as an ask for a gift, which nobody wants to feel. Keep the list to the closest circle, usually 15 to 40 people. Both parents' close friends, wedding party, and family often fill it comfortably.
If out-of-town guests would need to travel twice, consider pairing the shower with a wedding-adjacent weekend — a Sunday morning brunch shower the day before the rehearsal is warm and efficient. Destination weddings sometimes skip the shower entirely, or hold it as a small pre-departure lunch back home.
If you're inside the four-week window and no shower has been planned, it's okay to skip. A quiet dinner with the people who would have hosted it — the same faces, less staging — is often more meaningful anyway.
