Picking a hashtag you'll actually use
A good wedding hashtag does one job — it corrals the photos your guests post so you can find them later. It doesn't need to be clever, and it definitely doesn't need to be long. Aim for something you can say out loud at the rehearsal dinner and have every uncle at the back table hear it correctly.
Three quick tests
- The spell-it-out-loud test. Read the hashtag aloud without looking. If a friend can't guess the spelling on the first try, drop it. #FinallyTheParkers passes; #Jm2Prkr2026 doesn't.
- The Instagram collision check. Search your top two on Instagram before you print them. If someone else's wedding already used it and there are 300 posts, your guests' photos will drown in theirs. Pick again.
- The capitalization pass. Capitalize each word (called PascalCase) so it stays readable. Instagram doesn't care, but human eyes do — #ParkerPartyOf2 reads twice as fast as #parkerpartyof2.
Print it on the welcome sign, the cocktail napkins, and the back of the ceremony program. Post it on the RSVP site if you have one. Say it into the microphone at the reception once — that's usually the difference between 40 tagged photos and 400.
