How many months does it take to plan a wedding?
Your personal deadline

Twelve months is the number the industry quotes, and it's not wrong — it's comfortable. It gives you room to book great vendors, send save-the-dates and invitations at the polite intervals, and finish the wedding without a final month that feels like a sprint.
But twelve is not the only right number. Six months is entirely workable for a wedding of 50 to 150 guests: book the venue, photographer, and caterer in the first two weeks; send invitations on the accelerated 8-week timeline; keep the guest list tight and the details simple. Some of the loveliest weddings we've seen were planned in six months.
Three months demands focus and a shorter guest list, but it is genuinely possible — especially at a restaurant, a private home, or a small venue that doesn't require a year of lead time. Skip the save-the-dates and go straight to invitations. Keep the flowers seasonal, the menu tight, and the day one you can actually enjoy.
A month or less works for a small ceremony — 20 guests, a park or a courthouse, dinner at a favorite restaurant afterward. Get the marriage license first, pick a photographer who does elopements, and let the rest be soft.
On the other end, 18 or 24 months is a gift of time, not a mandate to fill it. The mistake with a long engagement is doing everything twice, or living in wedding-planning mode for two years. A good plan protects your months as much as your budget — Posy's scheduling holds tasks until they're actually due, so a 2-year timeline still only asks for the work when it needs asking.

- Can you plan a wedding in 3 months?
- Yes. Shorten the guest list, pick an off-peak weekend, and consider a restaurant, private home, or micro-venue instead of a traditional wedding hall. Posy generates a full 3-month plan the moment you enter your date.
- Is 6 months enough time?
- It's plenty. Six months is the second-most common timeline and gives you real breathing room for a beautiful wedding with 50–150 guests.
- What if we have 18+ months?
- Extra time is a gift — but don't do everything in month one. Posy holds the schedule so you're not spending 18 months in wedding-planning mode.
